Bronze Sun pendant on a string of aquamarine.
Part of my Future Heirlooms series, this one-off pendant was hand carved in wax before being cast in bronze in Hatton Garden using the ancient method of lost wax casting. It was then finished and polished by hand, and is intended to look like a well-worn ancient heirloom.
This series of wearable bronzes are intended to be empty totems that can be invested with meaning when worn close to the skin. The attribution of significance is in the hands of the wearer, but the making of the bronze and the selection of the gemstones deliberately references symbols and ideas from antiquity.
The Sun has been used as a symbol of the Self, hope and renewal. Pliny the Elder associated aquamarine with the ocean, and with purification and clarity.

Care of bronze jewellery:
Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, and has been used to make jewellery for thousands of years. Bronze naturally oxidises over time and develops a gentle patina. This can be removed using a jewellery polishing cloth. Minimise contact with water and lotions.
